24-27 until October, the world skill championship in landscape gardening – WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition – took place in Estonia.

Teams from 16 countries competed in Tallinn: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, Colombia, Germany, Estonia, Spain, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden and Taiwan. Each country was also represented by an expert in the field who guides the contestants and also participates as a judge.

As a competition, the teams had to build a model garden in the same conditions within four days. To do this, you must do soil work, lay pavement lay a wall, work with wood, build a water feature and do landscaping.

The first place in the competition went to Switzerland, the second place to Japan and the third place to the Hungarian team.

The competition was part of the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition, which took place in 15 countries over 12 weeks. It was the first experience for Estonia to be part of the organization of WorldSkills.

Initially, the WorldSkills competition was supposed to take place in China, but was cancelled on May 30 due to the pandemic situation in China. The member states of WorldSkills International decided that the competitions will be replaced by individual competitions held worldwide. Estonia applied to be the host country for landscape gardening, and the competition was confirmed to take place in Estonia.

The competition was organized by the Education and Youth Board of Estonia and the Ministry of Education and Research of Estonia in cooperation with Ardens OÜ and the Estonian Landscape Contractors Association. See more worldskillsestonia.ee.
